Ten years ago Kanye West said "The President doesn't care about black people", but is it really the "Presidency" itself that doesn't care?

Looking on back on the 10th Anniversary of Kanye West's most famous and controversial public statement.

Ten years ago Rapper/Producer and now "apparently" future presidential candidate Kanye West said these seven now famous words "George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People".

On national television during a telethon to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, Kanye West at that time was still beginning his career and not yet the mega star that he would eventually become, attacked “The leader of the free world” and the United States government itself in what could have led to an end to his promising career.

There is a long history of artist who have taken controversial political stances or made public impromptu statements that ultimately lead to them being “black-balled”. The list is endless in our history; Nina Simone, The Dixie Chicks, Sinead O’Connor, Billy Holiday even John Lennon; all saw their careers take a dip and some never recovered after they made remarks unfavorable to the powers that be,

However the reverse seemed to have occurred for Kanye. His statements arguably raised his stock price and even caused George W. Bush to lament in his biography that; that moment was the "lowest point of his Presidency". Yes not the crashing of a global economy or an unnecessary war that caused the deaths of millions including tens of thousands of American soldiers, but the words of a young upstart entertainer cut the former President like a Knife. Why? Because, it was in fact true.

But maybe it wasn't George W. Bush who didn't care about Black people but America itself..

The Bishop Is Crossing.. aka The Hunger Games have begun but who is on the menu?: Time to get money out of politics

Record numbers of American tuned into the GOP Fox News Debate so now the election silly season has officially begun. Watching the “debate” which was really an exercise in “soundbite-chasing” or “viral-whoring”, meanwhile true issues facing the nation were not addressed in any substantial manner.

The political discourse in this country is more and more becoming some sort of a dog and pony show and less of an exchange of ideas. Of course the start of the night was the ultimate celebrity whore Mr. Donald Trump.
Donald is leading in the polls and it is reported by several media outlets that he won the debate. And the reason he is doing so well is because the American people know that the politicians are bought and paid for and thus beholden to special interest groups.  “The Donald” despite his faults is for the most part his own man.

The truth came out when Trump went on his egotistical rant about how when he pays people they do what he says. Furthermore he admitted to giving large sums of money to virtually every one of his opponents who shared the stage with him. The highlight for me was when Ohio Governor John Kasich said: “Not me but I would like some!”. This is the state of affairs in our nation we no longer have a democracy we have something close to feudalism. The culture of “political brotheltry” on both sides of the isle leads to the political debate being restricted to the margins while basic foundation of our way of life is ready to collapse.

With so many pressing issues in our nation where do we begin?
There is no shortage of crises or looming questions that desperately needs our attention. But for many Americans it is hard to choose which is more prominent. Is it climate change? The high levels of carbon emissions threaten human kind’s very existence. Should the electorate’s number one question be how do we adapt? I would say that is probably for me at the top of the list.

What about police overreach and brutality? For my people police terror goes back to the slave patrols and fugitive slave act. The GOP debate gave only passing mention to the #BlackLivesMatter: movement. The was an interesting exchange between Chris Christie and Rand Paul on civil liberties and The 4th Amendment, but of course it was framed in the context of fighting “terrorism” when average Americans of all races are living daily with 4th and 5th Amendment violations.

What about jobs and income inequality? Our economy is in desperate need of restructuring due in part to globalization, technological advances and several other factors.

The remedies for all of these issues require political courage and statesmanship that is virtually absent in both the two major parties. Real substantive change in fact is if not impossible, it is highly improbable due the increasingly common practice of corporate capture of regulatory agencies and of course the influence of “moneyed” interests on candidates both Democratic and Republican.

It’s time to #MoveToAmend:

So the number one issue facing the United States and by extension the world is money in politics. If the GOP did nothing else it did highlight inadvertently the problem. You have 17 people running for a position that all but maybe 3 have no chance of winning or have the qualifications. The only reason they can participate is they have the money or the connections to the money to essentially “pay to play”.

The solution is simple folks, we need real campaign finance reform and ultimately publicly funded elections. It will take a constitutional amendment to do it too. Due to the nature of the Supreme Court and congress’s inability or unwillingness to reign the court in the only option we have is an amendment that says two things. First “corporations are not people” and secondly “money is not speech it is property”.

How did we get here??

"The Bishop Is Crossing.. aka The Bull Moose Verses The Lion: What If Black Lives Mattered as much to Liberals as Cecil the Lion?"

It is time for the white liberal progressive establishment to embrace the #BlackLivesMatter Movement or the progressive agenda and America will be no more..

My favorite President and arguably the founder of the Progressive Party Theodore Roosevelt did a lot of great things that helped create the lifestyle in America we take for granted. He spoke of economic equality worker rights, a living wage, universal healthcare, old age and poverty insurance, etc. Roosevelt’s “Square Deal” Programs brought to a newly industrialized nation, things like food and worker safety, health standards, sanitation, curtailing the rise corporate oligarchy by proposing and ultimately getting congress to pass anti-trust legislation and banking reforms.

Teddy Roosevelt was a Republican at a time when Republicans understood the tension between the ownership class and the labor class, and regulations on business are essential to keeping the “playing field” level for the average working citizen and protect the public sphere. When his party moved “to the right” and began to favor the wealthy over the average person Teddy left his party. He started the “Bull Moose Progressive Party” and ran for a third term as President after he left office. Teddy ultimately lost his bid for The White House but he changed the political landscape for the next 100 years or more. Progressive members of the GOP left and found a home amongst the Democratic Party.

Roosevelt was also a celebrated "Big Game Hunter", America and the world marveled at the former President's safaris. The Museum of National History here in New York still has the spoils of T.R.'s “great hunts” as part of the Theodore Roosevelt exhibition. Yes Teddy was “a man’s man” and was for the common man despite being a member himself of the upper class of society. For of all of Teddy Roosevelt’s greatness he was a racist, but at that time in the early 1900s most Americans were racists. Today it seems that America is no longer accepting of hunting for sport. It is okay to hunt if we plan to eat our catch apparently, and the death of animals at the hands of factory farming is also okay. When animals are born and then grown only for consumption never having much of a life it is just fine for us but big game hunting is considered something we have "evolved" from not something civilized people do. The entire thing to me is hypocritical and I am a proud lover over red meat and chicken, however if I had to actually kill and skin for my dinner I know I would probably switch to fruits and berries very quick.

Why doesn't Sandy matter as much as Cecil??

The outrage from all spectrums is absolutely an exercise in hypocrisy not just because most of Americans eat meat but because in the wake of the weekly, almost daily news stories of police brutality and deaths of unarmed citizens you would think the same people calling for the humane treatment of animals would also call for the humane treatment of well “humans”

The Bishop is Crossing aka Occupy your Mind..

The Bishop is Crossing aka Occupy your Mind..

Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Your Hood, Occupy America & the world.. But first people "Occupy Your Mind"!!

First & foremost, I stand with the “Occupiers” whose movement which started in my hometown NYC is beginning to spread to other cities across the country. Boston, Los Angeles, Boston, Atlanta and other cities are having similar movements.

Critics attack the Occupy Wall Street for its’ lack of "focus" its “lack” of “agenda”, “lack” of a “five point bullet-point presentation”. They proclaim that these are just a bunch of angry “99's” (of the unemployment variety); a bunch of modern day “hippies”.. (Not hipsters I hate those) They point to the lack of mainstream media coverage.. Even left wing heroes such as Thom Hartman, NorMan GoldMan, Lawrence O'Donnell, Keith Olbermann & Rachel Maddow was late to the party.. As always our so-called black leaders are even more late.(Ebonics..)

The believed problem with Occupy Wall Street is the movement's lack of a cookie cutter marketing strategy. The limited amount of media attention tries to compare it to the Tea Party Movement, which was nothing more than an elaborate guerilla marketing campaign.. We do the same thing with a new artist we pushing. The corporate media is late to the party because it’s hard for them to define it. (At least that's their excuse) The Right knows it’s against them but the "Middle Left" or what I like to call the Progressive panderers is afraid of this movement because it represents the frustrated and disenfranchised segment of their base. Not to mention Wall Street owns all the corporate media outlets. Is there any suprse of the lack of coverage?

So what is the Average person's problem?

Why the Apathy?

Why are the secretaries, mail room workers, lowly office clerks..etc complaining about the “Occupiers” disrupting their commute or lunch hour?

The answer is their mind is "Occupied" by the drunken stupor of apathy.

The one catch phrase I have heard from the Occupy Wall Street Movement is "You are the 99 Percent".

Bob Marley said to free your mind from mental slavery.. I believe our minds have become to “free” and we occupy it with nonsense, reality TV, American Idol the repackage New American Idol aka X Factor.. (If you're like me you turned it on thinking they did a TV version of the comic book)

No our minds are occupied with mental stimuli that is designed to retard our ability to think critically coupled with a narrow sense of processing information causes most people to lack the ability to see the big picture. Its either “Left” or “Right”, “Black” or “White”. “America” vs. "Them" (whoever they maybe)

My last Blog was "A Leap to Cynicism" (I have been slacking yes I know I haven’t been motivated to blog) I watched how people have become too complacent with their views.. How Black people who once were the moral compass of this nation have become the silent apathetic minority.

If you are black you cannot question the President without fear of being called a hater. Tavis Smiley and Cornel West have basically been kicked out of the so-called “Black establishment class” as Reverend Al-Pportunist has been basically ushered in as Barack Obama’s Fredrick Douglas, even got his own nationwide political show. (Ugfffzville indeed)

Little to no Media coverage was giving to Mr. Smiley & Dr. West's Poverty tour across America. At the same time the 2011 Census report shows that poverty in this nation is at an all-time high. In America 1 in 5 children live in poverty and the we are second to last in economic upward mobility amongst developed countries but the people are asleep.

Our slumber can only be attributed to the wealth of this nation and its safety nets that still remain for NOW and our President who despite the fact some of his supporters feel he hasn't done enough during his time in office still pacifies his supporters and left leaning critics. (Now I won't discuss my views on Obama or his place in the NWO's master plan, but I will say this the "Change..") Our Minds are clouded by nonsense.. We are so used to “sound-bites” and "twitter comprehension" that we can think past 142 characters.. Hell even Facebook dumb themselves down.

Today Ed Shultz who I agree with most of the time said he will not cover the Occupy Wall Street movement because they don't have a clear cut message. Ed went as far as to say they need disband and get folks registered to vote for the Democratic Party.. Mr. Shultz like many others on the left believe they need more than just to say "We mad at all the money effecting everything. Ed's passion I love but he has it wrong. That is the only message needed for right now, as it grows so will its organization and its “articulation”. (Local unions and labor organizations are begning to lend there support as well as celebrities so this will come)

There is no need for a 5 point-bullet PowerPoint presentation of the grievences of the Occupiers.. It’s clear!! The Owners of this world has overreached. These corporate Plutocrats have over done it.

The 1 percent controls the media political parties, our entertainment and even our educational system. I think that message is just perfect for now. The Entire world from the Middle East to Europe is saying the same thing..

"You are the 99 percent‼"

The Uber-Rich has over reached …

The American people is use to the rich getting richer we accept that, we understand that even applaud it but the “American Dream” that we may one day also be rich is becoming more and more an illusion.. Through education and hard work we believe if we work hard we can achieve maybe not riches but at least do better than our parents.. However things have changed. Manufacturing jobs have disappeared for the most part, entry level jobs has been outsourced and mid level employment offers suppressed wages with lack of growth. (Let's not forget the mountain of student loan debt.. That my generation is settled with..)

Do remember the outsourcing of jobs with these lop sided trade deals began with NAFTA & CAFTA which was designed by the Great Bill Clinton and his administration. In Clinton's defense he figured a surplus (which he left) would help buffer the lack of jobs and keep the American middle class & working class afloat as we transition to a new economy but it was started under Him.

President Bush of course went through the surplus like a drunken cowboy at a brothel and here we are..

The middle class is an endangered species and folks are starting to get it.

But of course the apathetic mind isn't occupied on the right thing and neither is the "so-called" mainstream left.. The "Occupiers" of Occupy Wall Street are having town halls, educational discussions on democracy and how to effectively convey their grievances. This is not the seeds of a political “sea change” or a political party's “re-focus” or “re-branding”, this is or could be a revolution..

Would you rather a peaceful revolution with marches and discussions, a movement that lacks some publicity and marketing campaign strategy or something a kin to the French revolution? The only violence so far came from the NYPD it was just a matter of time too..

My Issue…

I do not see enough black & brown folk down there.. With unemployment at 16.5 percent amongst African Americans there should be more.. Where are the black fraternities and soroaties? I know Homecoming is coming.. Occupy your mind on something else then apathy or avoidance.. I am glad to see Russell Simmons has giving his support perhaps others will follow and "we" will get more involved if only in a supportive role

It’s time to Occupy your minds on making this world a better place for my God Daughter and baby cousins

Occupy your mind after you free it..

The Bishop Is Crossing (12/09/09) aka The Leap to Cynisism

The Bishop is crossing aka The Leap To Cynicism

I know its been a minute but here goes my latest "The Bishop Is Crossing" . This is my call to all "Cynics" and "skeptics" too to rise up. As well to awaken the dormant cynicism within us all. Apathy isn't poppin anymore folks...

First off let's Define the words Cynicism

Cynicism

1 result for: cynicism - cyn·i·cism /ˈsɪnəˌsɪzəm/ [sin-uh-siz-uhm] –noun 1. cynical disposition, character, or belief. 2. a cynical remark. 3. (initial capital letter) any of the doctrines or practices of the Cynics.

Which comes from the word Cynical

2 results for: cynical - cyn·i·cal /ˈsɪnɪkəl/ [sin-i-kuhl] –adjective 1. like or characteristic of a cynic; distrusting or disparaging the motives of others. 2. showing contempt for accepted standards of honesty or morality by one's actions, esp. by actions that exploit the scruples of others. 3. bitterly or sneeringly distrustful, contemptuous, or pessimistic. 4. (initial capital letter) cynic (def. 5).

A leap to cynicism is needed today. I have always been a cynic. People always seem to ask me; "Where do you get your views?"; "Why are you so negative?" Folks I'm not negative I'm a realist!

my views on everything from politics, to music, to people in general comes from the art of observation from studying people and the world around you. Religious folk would say "be still" and God will speak to you right? Right! (God speaks to me about Religious folk all the time but that's another blog)

Some people call it intuition that might be true I am intuitive about a lot of things but when it comes the world to me its more common sense. Its actually deeper then common sense. Its simply logic.

One of the pillars of Logic is "causality" simpling meaning nothing comes from nothing: So if "something(s)" happened "something(s)" caused it to happen (If A then B)

(This is a long one folks so sit back)

2pac did a song called "stairing thru my rear-view" I did a remix (I think I will post it later for your listening pleasure) Basically its a song about the "overstanding". Pac said life is a game to be played to look at the world behind you like you already seen it before. What he is saying basically is to look at the world from outside of time, from outside the "now" but look at everything in the context of history.

That's how I view the world I watch the news like its history because everything repeats itself. People are beginning to compare our escalation in Afghanistan to Vietnam, yes there are similarities but that too is an argument used to distract us from the true reason for the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and possibly Iran. I will get to that in a bit. But I applaud the skepticism or better yet the "cynicisms"

America needs more skeptics & cynics . Cynics take skepticism to a higher level. A Skeptic gives an issue the benefit of the doubt but still remains unconvinced of a particular issue. A Cynic is just not buying that bullshit you are shoveling.

African Americans were once considered the moral compass, the conscience if you will of America. This is due to our unique position as being different from all the other citizens of our nation. "We" are not immigrants. Black folk as I like to call us (Well really I say N.I.G.G.A.s; Non Immigrants Gaining, Gathering & Achieving) didn't choose to come here. Our history in the United States has been filled with Terrorism, brutality, oppression, dis-in-franchisement, minor achievements, gradual acceptance and finally the apparent ultimate vindication with the election of the first African American President all be it half White and Half African immigrant.

Let's leap to cynicism when it comes to Obama. I truly believe that the number 1 candidate for the christian Anti christ or the Muslim Dijjar is Barack Obama. When I say this it pisses black folk off. See when the right wings call him the anti-christ they are doing it to degrade the man, with subtle racism and of course to scare their base and rallying the troops in an effort to oppose him. When I say that our President could very well be the A.C. comes from an understanding of the texts and an overstanding of them as well.

For the record I supported Obama. Met him in fact. Donated to the campaign . Why ? Because I believe If Barack Obama is in fact the Anti-christ then he already lost right? Right! I Let the metaphysical deal with metaphysical . Me I'm a physical being so I must deal with the physical. (In other words leave it in God's hands)

The Bible, the Quran and all other religious texts deal in metaphor and allegory . Jesus and Muhammad both spoke in parables so I cannot logically take these texts literal especially when it comes from man, But I accept the truths that are inherent with in all the ancient texts, if you overstand!

(Tangent I know)

So I believe the anti christ or the Dijja or whomever .. (Recently I learned of the concept of an "un-holy" trinity whatever) isn't representing the beginning of the end of the world but most likely the end of the world as we know it!
Our World's Nation states are by all intensive purposes nothing more then an illusion. We have a global economy, we have organizations such as the World Bank the G-8 and the G-6. In all things that matter we are for the most part connected. The problem is the "Frontier States". The "Frontier States" or "Frontier Nations" are the third world nations how do we get them in line? (Its more to it then this but we shall continue)

Why Cynicism?

As Black folk we always been skeptical or cynical of our Government we was raised that way . Unemployment today is 10 percent in this nation . So you know that's 20 25 percent for black people probably 35 for black men. When the country suffers we suffer more. "Uncle Jessie" Jackson said that Black people are the canary in the cole mines . We have been taught to always keep one eye on our daily lives and one eye on our government especially our President.

But then here comes Barack Obama....

Paul Mooney said at a show "Man we love him don't we? He is half black and half white. Looks like Malcom X and sounds like Martin Luther King" that's a Cynic talking . Comedians tend to be cynical. (Lord I wish George Carlin would've live to see Barack in Action or better yet Mark Twain)

I go on Facebook and almost every black person I see now have as their political affiliation "Obama" not democrat, not republican not liberal not conservative but "Obama" that speaks volumes. Our Black sense of skepticism has been pacified. America's conscience is gone. The black canary has flown the coup...

Its like when you would get in a car with your Uncle or Father going to visit your Aunt or Grandmother in the country you don't think twice about you getting there safe you just go to sleep, read a comic book, sight see . You know Dad got it, or Grandpa or in my case "Uncle Wally" Got it.

That's how we are treating things today. In every recession or depression before hand Black folk was marching and protesting demanding jobs, equal rights and protections.

Not Today!! Man we need to take a leap..

No jobs Obama got it, No Universal healthcare Obama got it. 35,000 more troops Obama got it. We not marching not rallying . Nothing just relaxing and waiting for "our President to sprinkle some AC dust and make it better"

Same with the white folk accept for the right-wingers who are against him from the beginning. (They kill me . Taarp is "apparently working we have extra so Obama wants to give Tax cuts to small businesses and the republicans are against this lol that's a conservative proposal)

Now I think the President is doing a good job so far. We are in a hole a huge hole! A hole left purposely by Bush so America would have no choice but to elect him.

Again look at the world outside of time. If the world is connected financially how do we connect it totally, when the majority of the world's population are brown people?

The answer: Get a brown leader simple.

Take a Leap To Cynicism folk.

It amazes me how Hip Hop the anti culture for the past 25 years suddenly was in my opinion was one of the most significant driving forces to the Obama Campaign. Why?

"Think about it.."

In fact the Entertainment community as a whole supported the man do you think it is a coincidence that white house chief of staff Rham Emmanuel's brother is one of the biggest Entertainment Lawyers in the business?

Take that Leap...

Let's get to the heart of it. Cause I'm going on and on and I can ramble about this subject until the cows come home. I apologize to the lack of structure bout the beauty about blogging is that the traditional rules of writing are a bit "relaxed"

Last week our President addressed the Nation about the escalation in Afghanistan and the "Left" is upset and confused. Why does Obama keep the same generals Bush had, why does he keep the same Secretary of Defense? (While we at it why the same Fed Chairman)

Thinking???

If it don't make sense it makes Dollars!!

This country only produces 4 things, our economy is powered by only; Entertainment (music, movies, sports etc), Financial regulations (banking, wall street, legal, IP), Healthcare (Insurance, pharmas) and finally the Military . The wars we fight make it possible for everything else to function. So are you surprised that 1 year into the new administration we are sending 35,000 more troops overseas?

Leap please!!

Let's talk Debt. Who do we owe ? China and the Asian nations. That includes India too by the way .

I promise you you're about to Leap..

The Asian Development Bank has been trying to build "The Trans-Afghan Oil Pipeline" in Afghanistan for almost 20 years. It will run from Turkmenistan (Caspian sea) through Afghanistan through Pakistan then India and China and Russia etc..

That's right folks.. Oil again

So we are fighting a war and sacrificing our young people who can't get no other jobs but military service for a pipeline that we won't even profit from why? Because America is the enforcers of the world.

Ready to Leap yet??

I can continue but hey I'm planning on writing a book so let me not give it all away in one blog. But then again I probably will if I get tight enough..

I will leave you with this.. Some of our greatest people were Cynics.. Ghandi, Jesus, Martin, Malcolm and of Course J-Didda (cheap plug I know)

In closing LEAP TOWARDS CYNICISM its good for the soul, good for your children and your Country

We cannot blindly follow anything or anyone anymore. As christmas approaches I always think of John Lennon and his "Happy X-mas" song. "The war is over, if you want it" . Even though we are pacified we still have the power to slow down "their" agenda.

Peace - Didda

The President Calls Kanye West and Asshole

Now You know you fucked up when The President the leader for the free world tells you that you are a Jackass. The First Black President Calls you an asshole. Kanye really pulled a bitch moved.
